will shawn marion in dallas work?
they already have josh howard at the 3 while dirk is strictly a 4, does shawn marion have a big ego? will he accept reduce minutes or will they bench howard and put him at the 3, any suggestions how this may play out?

Doesn't hurt. I think it'll take Dallas some time to fit Marion into their roster (maybe more time than it should). If he doesn't work out, there are a lot of teams who will gladly trade for him.

maybe he could be the like Lamar Odom of the Lakers. He can be the 3-4 coming off the bench.

I think it will work, as he doesn't have to be the superstar (Dirk), and he has a PG (Kidd) that runs the fast break really well like Nash did when he was really good in Phoenix. He will make a good number 4 option, after Dirk, Jason Terry, and Josh Howard.

Both Marion and Howard are versatile. Howard can play the 2 and 3. And Marion can play 2, 3, and 4. I think the Mavs office want Howard to play SG and Marion to play as SF. Terry will still be coming off the bench... so Terry would be their 6th man again. Kidd will be the starting PG, and Dirk and Dampier will play the 4 and 5, respectively.

The Matrix will be the same versatile player we have seen in the past. It sounds Marion and Howard are overlapped, but they will play at the same time because they have different roles. Expect Marion to anchor the defense and again, J-Kidd will feed enough balls to Marion to take his awkward shooting. In a tactical perspective, I think benching Howard and starting Terry at SG make sense. Marion will get the respect he believes he deserves and this motor will run asap, easily sharing some loads from Dirk while maintaining a tight defensive line. On the other hand, Howard will be the focal point in second unit and by adding supporting players like Barea, Thomas and Ross, Mavs possess the luxuxry for resting Dirk for some extra minutes, which is exceptionally crucial for keeping him refreshing for playoff. In short, what Mavs treasure on Marion is his versatility, and they simply maximize it.
