Work in Dallas (off of 75/635/Walnut Hill Lane) but want to be close to family in Fort Worth -- what is a good
I work in Dallas (off of 75/635/Walnut Hill Lane) but want to be close to family in Fort Worth -- what is a good 1/2 way point to live while factoring in the traffic.

Irving, or near the Galleria.
2 :
You might want to consider living in one of the outer suburbs of Dallas such as Irving, Las Colinas, or maybe The Colony. Each of those areas is close to either 635 or Northwest Highway (Loop 12) and you can take both of those routes to the Walnut Hill Lane / 75 area. You can also take Walnut Hill westbound to the outer suburbs. You would expect a commute of 30-35 minutes into Dallas, but you would only be 30-45 minutes away from your family in Fort Worth, depending on where they live. However, keep in mind 635 and 75 are unpredictable during morning rush hour if you want to travel by interstate. Good luck!
3 :
There is no good place "considering the traffic." Dallas has horrible traffic. I guess Arlington is a good half way point.
4 :
You're out of luck. There is no good halfway point when you and your family are on opposite sides of a six-million person metroplex. If traffic is your biggest concern, you might want to try living north of the DFW airport, perhaps in Grapevine. The exact halfway point between you and them puts you in middle of the most horrendous driving in the mid-cities area. The only way to avoid it is to go north of it, or south of it. Neither is convenient.
5 :
What side of Ft. Worth? If your family is on the Northside, then anywhere west - Coppell or Grapevine in particular - would be half way for you. Both of these communities have good schools. South Ft. Worth is tougher - Cedar Hill or the nice areas in Oak Cliff in Dallas (Sylvan Ave., Kessler Park) might be a good choice for you.

About If I went to a Police academy at one place, can I work in another

If I went to a Police academy at one place, can I work in another?
I was wondering if I went to a police academy at one place, can I work in another? Example: police academy for LAPD, work in Dallas So basically everyones saying that each state has it's own laws, so one would have to go through their specific police academy in order to learn their laws and be certified to work as a law enforcement officer.... ? Well what about another police academy in the same state, but just another town?
Law Enforcement & Police - 6 Answers

maybe and maybe not depends they might want u to work for LAPD for at least 2 years then u can just transfer to dallas
2 :
The majority of what you do as a police officer is enforce state and local law. The laws vary between the states, so you will still have to be certified in the new state. Some departments such as Seattle PD offer an abbreviated form of their academy for transfers with experience, but you will still have to attend some training. A transfer to a different deparment in the same state may be easier but some still require you to attend their academy.
3 :
depends if the academy is recognized by the other department as acceptable. if you work for LAPD and do a transfer (which some departments dont allow) im not sure if you would have to take the academy again. Example- if i wanted to go through my college and take the police academy and pay for it my self, (Chicago area) i could and that same academy offered by my college is accredited the same as the suburban departments, i wont have to go in to it again. however, since Chicago PD's academy is different, i would have to retake their academy in order to work for them.
4 :
LAPD now forces you to sign a 5 year contract. So if you go to LAPD academy, they own you for 5 years. I just signed the papers. But on a more general answer: If you betray a city and try to work somewhere else, it will look very very bad in your background investigation. The background investigator will CERTAINLY call your academy. Your academy will be happy tell him that you're a traitor.
5 :
some departments will take lateral transfers but usually only if you worked full time for so many years. It depends on what the state will authorize as approved training, if they were to authorize your academy training and allow for the transfer you would still have to go through a smaller academy to learn their state laws, city laws, and local department procedures for bigger departments. Most big city departments will require you to go through their academies either way. Just depends on state requirements, and preference of the department. You will have to check with each individal department you are interested in.

state are all different

How can I obtain a work permit in the Dallas, Texas area?

ur supposed to get it from ur school :)
2 :
There is no such thing as a work permit. The only exception to this is if you are not from the US, in which case your parents know how to apply for a work visa (not a "permit"). Businesses can only hire you if you are legal to work in the US. If you are foreign, you must apply for a work visa. If you are legal to work in the US, you must know that many companies have a policy not to hire minors. You will have your best bets at employment at grocery stores. Most jobs historically filled by minors (ie, fast food) are now occupied by illegal workers.
3 :
They are looking for a school permit. Go to your principal's office. It's kind of silly for summer work but if you continue into the school year you must have one.

About what is the easiest commute to and from Dallas, Tx

What is the easiest commute to and from Dallas, Tx?
I am interested in moving to a suburb of Dallas. I plan to work in Dallas, so I will have to commute back and forth from Dallas. Is there a certain county outside of Dallas that is an easy commute?

While rush hour traffic is nothing compared to other cities like Chicago or LA, we do have our rush hour problems. So that said, pretty much anywhere you live you are going to have a dreary time commuting back and forth to work. There is the DART rail lines of course that you can use to get back and forth. www.dart.org If I could get to work using the rail lines I would, you don't have to worry about all the other fools on the road and who is going to cut you off or hit you on a given morning. But If you are going to live outside of Dallas County, you are going to have a long commute depending on what part of town you work in. Which makes it not an easy commute from anywhere outside of Dallas.
3 :
Garland, Rockwall
4 :
That depends on what part of Dallas you will be working in, but I really don't think there will be much difference if you plan to work near downtown Dallas. North of Dallas would probably be the worst.
5 :
If you can stay along the rail coridors, for example the TRE commuter rail system provides for easy commuting between Ft. Worth, Arlington, Grand Prarie and Dallas. Also, the DART system has good light rail service between Plano & Dallas. Avoid driving, the traffic is the pits!
6 :
i say any suburbs south of dallas because its older and u have more than one choice of how to get to dallas (cedar hill, duncanville, grand prairie, glenn heights, waxahachie, midlothian). dallas is growing fast and quickly up north. there is a lot of road construction due to the growth but just not a many travel options. traffice is very heavy up north heading into downtown dallas. i try to save my trips to the north part of town until the weekends.
7 :
Bryan County. Durant, OK. 1 hour 45 minutes from DFW airport. 15 minutes from the Oklahoma/Texas border. Great town. Low crime. Cheap property taxes. Easy commute. Growing Town. Check out www.durant.org .
8 :
If you don't mind an RV or trailer, Dallas Hi Ho RV Park just off the corner of W Bear Creek Rd & S Hampton Rd is a fairly good choice. There's a DART Park & Ride station about two miles away at Bear Creek & I-35 200 W Bear Creek Rd Glenn Heights, TX 75154 (972) 223-4834 http://www.campingfriend.com/DallasHiHoRVPark/default.asp?file=Rates

Mansfield is a great place. Feels like a small town, but it is growing fast. Great housing market. Great schools. Great parks. 2 golf courses, one private one public. Lots of restaurants and shopping. My husband works downtown Dallas and it takes 30 minutes to get there with mild traffic. Depends on what time you leave, but, according to friends, it is alot better than being up north of the city.

About great places to work in the Dallas/Fort Worth area

Great places to work in the Dallas/Fort Worth area?
Anyone know of any great companies to work for in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for someone with an Advertising degree and about 5 years worth of management experience? Also, do you have any advice on a type of career that would fit this profile? It does not necessarily have to be in the Advertising field....just a career that an advertising degree would be suitable for? Thanks for the help!

About I live in Dallas, but work in Houston

I live in Dallas, but work in Houston..?
Situation: I live in Dallas, but work full-time in Houston. I come to Houston every Sunday evening to work from Monday thru Friday. Then Friday evenings, I return to Dallas to be with my family. My question is, can I deduct the gas that I'm using to come to Houston to work? During my time in Houston, I stay with family.

I think so
2 :
Generally, NO. We all have to commute back and forth to work. Yours is just a bit longer than most.
3 :
Prob. not, since your "tax home" is in Houston.
4 :
If this is a permanent situation (one expected to last one year or more from when it began), no. However, if you were to move to Houston, then you could deduct your moving expenses. If this is a temporary situation expected to end less than one year after it began, after which you will resume working in Dallas, then you might be able to deduct travel expenses, including gas and 50% of meals.

Single, 36 year old, relocating to Dallas (work in Coppell). Where should I get an apartment/condo? Thanks!?
If it helps, I'll be making 65 grand. Also, while I would like to be in a hipper area, I don't wanna be some older guy among kids, either. I hear Las Colinas is cool, and Uptown. But I will take ANY help you all can give me. Thanks again!

Have you thought of buying a home rather then renting? You make good money so owning a home is a good investment into your future. I would check with a realtor and see what is available and what areas are better to buy in. Happy Holidays.

I am a fellow career seeker and the most help that I have recieved is indeed.com advance search and enter as much info as you can.
2 :
Try indeed.com all of the jobs are there. I am a recrutier, I use it too. Good Luck.
3 :
First hint would be to APPLY the skills your degree should have given you in doing basic research intop your proposed area of relocation. Start with the Business and Economic Development folks at your soon to be local chamber of commerce. These kids have the day job of monitoring who is hiring, expanding (and contracting) in the local business area. They will also have inside leads at some pretty amazing levels and places.
4 :
If you are having a difficult time--try a head hunter (sometimes they will find you a job for a fee--or an organization will pay for your fee) and try www.resumeblaster.com or any number of resume blasting companies. Granted, you will have to pay a fee for this service, and your resume will be sent out to thousands of companies (to an annoyance)--it is a tool that gets your name out there. Good luck and endeavor!

Most people drive to work the mass transit is limited and difficult to use unless it stops near your house and near your work. Parking can be expensive and the traffic can be bad.
